Saylor Sees Money as 'Economic Energy', Bitcoin the Best Digital Solution
Michael Saylor, chairman of Strategy (NASDAQ: MSTR), recently published an essay on X, where he shared his views on money and Bitcoin. According to Saylor, 'money is economic energy,' and he believes that any monetary system should effectively conserve this value. He argues that good money should allow people to store the value of their labor, move it forward in time, and send it across long distances without experiencing 'monetary entropy.'
Saylor praises Bitcoin for being a digital monetary energy that has no physical mass, no central issuer, and a fixed supply of 21 million coins. He also criticizes traditional money, saying that gold is mechanically defective due to its heaviness, costliness, and reliance on custodians. Government-issued money, he notes, hands control over the supply and rules to governments and central banks.
In an interview with Steven Bartlett of Diary of a CEO, Saylor pushed back against Elon Musk's prediction that artificial intelligence will make goods abundant and eventually render money irrelevant. Saylor countered that people will always chase scarce, status-conferring goods because 'we're status-oriented animals.'
