Saylor Sells, Lee Buys: Contrasting Strategies in Cryptocurrency Market

Instruments
BTC USDT USDC
Share

The cryptocurrency market is witnessing a notable phenomenon where two major players are taking different approaches. Michael Saylor, CEO of MicroStrategy, continues to sell Bitcoin (BTC) and use the proceeds for share buybacks and dividend buffers. In contrast, Tom Lee, co-founder of Fundstrat Global Advisors, is buying BTC despite its recent price drop.

This divergent approach has sparked interest among market observers. Saylor's strategy involves selling a portion of MicroStrategy's BTC holdings to fund various initiatives. For instance, the company recently sold 1,638 BTC and issued shares to cover the cost of STRC buybacks and a $4 billion dividend buffer.

Meanwhile, Lee remains bullish on BTC, which is reflected in his buying activities. The market has also seen an increase in whale activity, with BTC whale wallets growing from 2.87 million coins in December 2025 to 3.06 million coins recently. This accumulation of large investors at lower prices may be a contrarian indicator.

The stablecoin signal is another area of concern for the market. The supply of USDT and USDC has been decreasing while BTC's price bounces off $58,000. This divergence has occurred twice before, and each time it preceded a significant price drop in the cryptocurrency market.
