Saylor Sets Long-Term Horizon for MSTR Investors Amid $4.8B Cash Reserve
Michael Saylor has emphasized the importance of having a long-term perspective when investing in MicroStrategy (MSTR). The executive chairman stated that MSTR investors should have at least a four-year time horizon, with seven to ten years being preferable. This warning is not generic risk disclosure, but rather the operational premise of a balance sheet that holds Bitcoin through periods of decline.
Saylor's comments do not dispute the notion that MSTR acts as a leveraged Bitcoin proxy, with convertible issuance amplifying both upside and downside. However, he made it clear that the company will not manage this structure around quarterly sentiment. This means that MSTR investors should be prepared for difficult years.
The company currently holds approximately $4.8 billion in cash, which Saylor framed as flexibility to buy Bitcoin, repurchase MSTR or preferred shares, or repay debt. This liquidity serves as a buffer against the exact difficult years he told investors to expect. Share buybacks are not currently a priority, and Strategy would likely consider repurchasing MSTR only if the stock trades at a very deep discount to net asset value.
