Saylor Sounds Alarm: Changes to Bitcoin's Rules Pose Greatest Threat
Michael Saylor, Executive Chairman of Strategy, has expressed concern about potential changes to Bitcoin's internal rules. He believes that alterations to these rules pose a significant long-term threat to the cryptocurrency, surpassing risks from rival cryptocurrencies or governments.
Saylor argues that the current consensus rules protect Bitcoin's core features, such as property rights, scarcity, and transaction settlement. He warns that modifying these rules could lead to internal conflicts, reduced security, and diminished miner incentives.
Saylor is particularly opposed to proposals like BIP-110, which he believes could weaken block-space scarcity or complicate the protocol. Instead, he advocates for a simple, neutral, and secure base layer with new features built on second layers.
In an effort to support Bitcoin security research, Strategy and eight other firms have pledged $15 million over three years. This investment emphasizes cautious upgrades and corporate adoption as key to Bitcoin's future growth and resilience.
