Saylor Sounds Alarm on Potential Protocol Changes' Impact on Bitcoin
Bitcoin's future governance has become a pressing concern as institutional interest in the cryptocurrency continues to grow, according to Michael Saylor. The protocol's existing consensus rules ensure its scarcity, ownership, settlement, and security, which Saylor calls the 'constitutional basis' of Bitcoin.
In an interview, Saylor stated that any changes to these rules could harm the economic system of Bitcoin. He warned that modifications introduced today may impact technologies, financial markets, and economic opportunities in the future.
Saylor emphasized the importance of stable consensus rules due to the incentive structures for miners. Changes to protocol could influence miner incentives, validation costs, transaction processing, and block space scarcity. For instance, increasing block sizes would lower scarcity but increase operating costs for network validators.
