Saylor's AI-Powered Financial Instrument Raises $10.5 Billion in Fresh Capital
Michael Saylor, founder of Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy), recently appeared on Steven Bartlett's podcast 'Diary of a CEO' and shared his views on financial engineering and the use of AI in creating novel financial instruments.
Saylor, an MIT graduate with dual degrees in aeronautics and astronautics, as well as science, technology, and society, has been building ambitious things for over three decades. He has founded multiple companies, including Alarm.com and Angel.com, which he later sold to Genesys for $110 million.
In 2025, Saylor's company needed a new way to raise money to buy Bitcoin. Conventional methods had maxed out, so he turned to ChatGPT and asked it to help him create a preferred stock that behaves like stable, short-term credit and is backed by Bitcoin. The AI provided a structure for the instrument, which was later used to raise around $10.5 billion in fresh capital, contributing to the company's treasury to buy more Bitcoin.
Saylor argues that using AI to attack complex problems in domains like securities law and structured finance is essential. He advises young people not to try to outwork robots but rather learn to point them at something no one has ever built.
