Michael Saylor's company Strategy has released a 21-page Bitcoin Investor Guide, targeted at professional investors such as bankers and capital allocators. The guide repositions Bitcoin as an institutional investment opportunity, rather than focusing on aggressive price targets.

The document highlights the volatility and drawdowns of Bitcoin, using market data current to September 4 and a revision date of September 7. It also explores Bitcoin's monetary properties, investment case, market structure, portfolio role, custody, and risks.

Strategy's own dashboard shows that Bitcoin is currently down 28.3% over the trailing year and sitting 36.1% below its all-time high. The guide notes that Bitcoin has repeatedly fallen between 50% and 90% and can stay below prior peaks for years.

The document introduces a layered model called digital capital, where Bitcoin sits at the base as a reserve asset, and on top of it Strategy stacks digital equity, digital credit, digital debt, derivatives, and digital money. Each layer repackages Bitcoin's volatility for a different investor.
