Sberbank Accepts Bitcoin as Collateral in Lending Program
Russia's largest bank, Sberbank, is taking a significant step into the world of cryptocurrencies. As part of its lending program, the bank will initially accept Bitcoin as collateral, with plans to expand to Ethereum and Tether after regulatory approval.
This move comes in line with Russia's new digital asset law, which took effect on September 1, 2026, setting disclosure rules and providing regulatory oversight for cryptocurrencies. Sberbank is also working on developing a crypto wallet and custody platform to support institutional digital asset management.
