Sberbank Expands Crypto Collateral Strategy to Include Bitcoin, Ethereum, and USDT
Russia's leading bank, Sberbank, is expanding its crypto collateral strategy to include Bitcoin, Ethereum, and USDT for secured lending. This move comes as part of new regulations in Russia that aim to mainstream cryptocurrencies in the financial sector.
Sberbank Deputy Chairman Anatoly Popov stated that the bank has already had experience dealing with cryptocurrency and is prepared to adopt new regulations. The plan involves borrowers borrowing rather than selling their digital assets, allowing institutions or businesses to gain liquidity without losing market exposure.
The inclusion of Ethereum and USDT in Sberbank's lending platform could make a significant difference, as Ethereum is the second-largest cryptocurrency and the foundation for numerous digital assets and decentralized finance apps. USDT, on the other hand, is the most popular stablecoin globally and is strategically vital for crypto liquidity.
This development indicates a trend toward rethinking the relationship of big financial companies with digital assets, with banks exploring genuine use cases like collateral loans, custodianship, and settlement services.
