Sberbank Expands Crypto Collateral Strategy with Bitcoin, Ethereum, and USDT Lending
Russia's leading bank, Sberbank, is set to expand its crypto collateral strategy by lending against Bitcoin, Ethereum, and USDT assets. The move comes as the bank prepares for new regulations that will allow it to offer secured loans using digital assets.
According to Deputy Chairman Anatoly Popov, Sberbank has already gained experience in dealing with cryptocurrency and is ready to adopt new regulations when they are approved by the Bank of Russia. Currently, Bitcoin is considered a core digital asset for secured lending, but the bank plans to include Ethereum and USDT as eligible collateral upon approval.
The plan involves borrowers borrowing rather than selling their digital assets, providing an opportunity for large crypto holdings at institutions or businesses to gain liquidity without losing market exposure.
