Sberbank Expands Services with Crypto-Backed Loans and Digital Wallets
Russia's largest bank, Sberbank, is expanding its services to include cryptocurrency-backed loans. The institution has already begun developing lending products that accept Bitcoin as collateral and plans to incorporate Ethereum and Tether in the future.
The move comes as Russia's regulatory framework for digital assets evolves, with Federal Law No. 282-FZ set to become operational on September 1, 2026. This legislation establishes disclosure obligations for Russian citizens holding digital assets on international platforms.
Sberbank's Deputy Chairman, Anatoly Popov, noted that the bank has accumulated experience working with digital currencies through its earlier trial program with mining firm AO Intelion Data. He stated that the institution will modify its current financial products once Russia's updated legal framework is fully implemented.
