Sberbank Paves Way for Mainstream Crypto Adoption in Russia
Russia's largest financial institution, Sberbank, is set to launch a lending product that recognizes Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Tether (USDT) as eligible collateral.
This move aligns with new regulations from the Central Bank of Russia, which take effect on September 1.
The new rules provide a legal basis for banks to accept digital currencies as collateral, opening up a path for mainstream financial institutions to integrate crypto assets into traditional banking services.
Sberbank's initiative is not limited to lending alone; the bank also plans to introduce a crypto wallet and a digital custody service within the year, allowing clients to store and manage their digital assets securely under the bank's oversight.
