Sberbank Rolls Out Cryptocurrency Payments Amid Russia's Digital Currency Regulations
Russia's largest lender, Sberbank, has launched cryptocurrency payments for corporate clients trading internationally. This move coincides with the enforcement of a law regulating digital currency transactions in Russia.
The bank will process cross-border payments in cryptocurrency, allowing companies to transfer funds more quickly and at lower costs than traditional methods. According to Sberbank, transactions between crypto wallets take only a few minutes, compared to days for traditional wires. The average transaction cost is 0.3%, lower than with traditional transfers.
Alexander Vedyakhin, first deputy chairman of the Executive Board of Sberbank, highlighted the benefits of this new service: 'For Russian exporters and importers, international settlements in cryptocurrency mean faster payments, new markets, and partners previously inaccessible due to restrictions.'
