Sberbank Sets December Deadline for Crypto Trading Infrastructure Launch
Sberbank, Russia's largest bank, is pushing forward with its plans to launch crypto trading infrastructure and a digital depository by December 1, 2026. According to Alexander Vedyakhin, first deputy chairman at Sberbank, the platform will facilitate regulated crypto trading, custody, and settlement services.
The depository will register clients' rights to cryptocurrencies and take into account transactions carried out beyond the primary blockchain.
Sberbank has not yet revealed which cryptocurrencies will be made available for trade or what the trading fees and requirements for traders will be.
The platform's launch is in compliance with Russia's cryptocurrency activities framework, which will come into effect on September 1, 2026. This framework allows both qualified and non-qualified investors to trade in cryptocurrencies through licensed intermediaries.
