Sberbank Unveils Cross-Border Crypto Payments System for Russian Exporters
Sberbank, Russia's largest bank, has launched a cross-border crypto payments system for corporate clients involved in foreign trade. According to Alexander Vedyakhin, Sberbank's Deputy Chairman, this new service will allow Russian exporters and importers to make faster payments, access new markets, and partners previously unavailable due to restrictions.
The law on cryptocurrency regulation has come into force in Russia since September 1, creating comprehensive regulation for the circulation of cryptocurrencies. This includes purchases by citizens through licensed intermediaries, exchange trading, clearing, and digital depositories. Exporters and importers can now use cryptocurrencies for cross-border settlements without restrictions.
The new system is a significant step forward in providing alternative payment systems to the Western-controlled SWIFT network. It also offers lower costs, with an average transaction fee of 0.3%, and faster processing times, taking only a couple of minutes to complete.
