Sberbank Unveils Crypto Trading Plans Amid Russia's Regulated Market Push
Russia's largest bank, Sberbank, is building cryptocurrency trading infrastructure and a digital custody system to be operational by December 1.
This move follows the Federation Council's approval of a bill regulating cryptocurrency trading through licensed brokers, exchanges, asset managers, and custodians. The law takes effect on September 1, with a provision requiring trades to go through licensed intermediaries set to apply from July 2027.
Cryptocurrencies listed on public exchanges must meet liquidity standards set by the Bank of Russia, including a two-year average market capitalization of at least 5 trillion rubles ($64 billion) and an average daily trading volume of at least 1 trillion rubles ($12.8 billion).
