Scammers Pose as Sheriff Deputies Demanding Bitcoin Payments
The Christian County Sheriff's Office has issued a warning to residents about a phone scam targeting local citizens. Scammers are posing as Lt. James Dragoo, claiming that victims have missed a court date or have an outstanding warrant for failure-to-appear or contempt.
The scammers then instruct the targets to send money through a Bitcoin kiosk to avoid being arrested. The sheriff's office emphasizes that these calls are fraudulent and reminds residents that deputies will never demand payment over the phone or direct them to deposit funds into a Bitcoin machine.
Anyone who receives one of these suspicious calls is urged to hang up immediately, avoid providing personal or financial information, and contact the Christian County Sheriff's Office directly to report the incident or verify any claims.
