Schiff: Bitcoin Not a Real Asset, Inflation Hedge
Peter Schiff, a well-known gold investor and longtime Bitcoin critic, has once again spoken out against the cryptocurrency. In a recent response to crypto analyst Quinten Francois' post, Schiff rejected the idea that Bitcoin's value is comparable to traditional assets like gold, equities, or real estate.
'Bitcoin is not a real asset so its value has no relationship to gold, equities or real estate,' Schiff wrote. He argued that investors seeking protection against inflation should choose traditional precious metals instead of Bitcoin.
Schiff also disputed the notion that Bitcoin is an effective hedge against inflation, stating that 'I don't think Bitcoin is an inflation hedge.' He claimed that over the last five years, he would have been better off avoiding Bitcoin altogether, as its price has not provided a significant return on investment.
In addition to his criticism of Bitcoin's value and inflation-hedging potential, Schiff also expressed concerns about the cryptocurrency's relationship with AI. 'AI isn’t bullish for Bitcoin; it’s a threat to it,' he wrote.
