Schiff: Bitcoin's $72K Surge a 'Fakeout', Triggered by Treasury Buyback
Economist Peter Schiff says Bitcoin's recent price surge above $72K is just a 'fakeout', triggered by the Treasury's debt buyback announcement. The move, which doubled the size of its buybacks to $4 billion per operation, left markets disoriented and led investors to rush into assets like gold.
Schiff believes that this price movement won't last long, as it is not driven by fundamental changes in Bitcoin's value or adoption. Instead, he thinks it's a temporary reaction to the Treasury's action, which will eventually wear off once markets settle down.
The economist also pointed out that the Treasury's buyback announcement has not had the desired effect of lowering yields, and that a larger action might be needed to stabilize the market. He hinted at a revival of an official quantitative easing strategy, where the Federal Reserve would resume its open market purchases.
