Schiff Warns AI Could Outcompete and Potentially Threaten Bitcoin's Existence
Peter Schiff, a well-known critic of Bitcoin, recently argued that Artificial Intelligence (AI) could become the biggest threat to the cryptocurrency's existence. According to Schiff, AI and Bitcoin mining compete for speculative investment, electricity, and data center capacity.
However, Schiff's argument is not just about competition; he also warned that increasingly powerful AI could discover vulnerabilities in Bitcoin's code, cryptography, or network that human researchers have overlooked.
A counterargument was presented to Schiff, suggesting that AI could actually benefit gold more than Bitcoin. However, Schiff remained unconvinced, stating that AI could find new gold deposits and make mining cheaper.
While Schiff's argument has some merit, it is essential to note that the prospect of AI breaking Bitcoin's fundamental rules remains unlikely. The cryptocurrency's security and protocol-enforced scarcity depend on software remaining secure, which can be achieved through continuous testing and review.
