Schiff Warns AI Poses Security Threat to Bitcoin
Economist and gold advocate Peter Schiff warned that artificial intelligence poses a threat to Bitcoin's security, not a catalyst for growth. In a recent post on X, he argued that AI is a direct competitor to Bitcoin in several areas: speculative capital, electricity, and data center infrastructure.
Schiff claimed that increasingly powerful AI systems could identify weaknesses in Bitcoin's code, cryptography, or network that humans have missed, potentially compromising the cryptocurrency's integrity. He also pointed out that the rising demand for AI-related resources, such as electricity and data center space, is diverting attention away from Bitcoin.
The economist acknowledged that his views tend to resonate primarily with audiences already skeptical of cryptocurrency as an investment class, but he emphasized his long-standing preference for precious metals over digital assets. He noted that gold's value lies in its scarcity, which AI advances may eventually threaten by increasing the extractable supply of gold.
