Schumer Unveils Anti-Corruption Bureau Plan Amid Trump Crypto Ties Scrutiny
US Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has introduced a bill to create a new federal anti-corruption agency, which would target executive branch misconduct and consolidate several existing oversight bodies. The proposal, known as the Anti-Corruption Bureau Creation Act, aims to address concerns over President Donald Trump's business interests and potential conflicts of interest.
The bill cites congressional findings that Trump disclosed earning more than $2 billion from investments in 2025, including $1.4 billion linked to crypto assets. Schumer said the new agency would have enforcement powers and be led by a bipartisan panel of seven members confirmed by the Senate.
The proposal faces a narrow path forward, requiring Republican support in both chambers and resolving unresolved negotiations over the CLARITY Act. The White House has not commented on the bill, which aims to replace what Schumer calls a 'fragmented oversight system'.
