Schumer's Emergency Caucus Hammers Out Crypto Bill Sticking Points
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer convened an emergency Democratic caucus meeting on September 13 to discuss the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act (CLARITY Act), a sweeping crypto regulation bill. The meeting aimed to unify the party's position ahead of a critical procedural vote scheduled for September 15.
The CLARITY Act has undergone over 100 changes since its initial draft, with Democrats still pushing for ethics provisions that would prevent government officials from profiting from crypto ventures. This comes after it was reported that former President Donald Trump's crypto income exceeded $1.4 billion in 2025.
Community banks are caught in the crossfire as they disagree over whether the bill's framework would inadvertently disadvantage smaller financial institutions trying to offer stablecoin products.
