Charles Schwab has revamped its approach to cryptocurrency investments by introducing a framework that categorizes five major digital assets based on their roles and risk profiles in investment portfolios.

The firm's strategy, outlined by Adam Lynch, director of global equity research at Charles Schwab, positions Bitcoin and Ethereum as core portfolio components. Lynch characterized Bitcoin as a 'classic debasement hedge,' highlighting its use in scenarios where fiat currency faces declining purchasing power.

Ethereum, though also discussed in relation to themes of currency debasement, is credited by Lynch as having broader functionality within the blockchain ecosystem due to its ability to support decentralized applications and smart contracts.

In contrast, Solana, XRP, and Hyperliquid are classified as higher-volatility assets, with their greater price fluctuations positioning them as higher-risk investments compared to Bitcoin and Ethereum.
