Schwartz Confronts Bitcoin Knots Over Misleading Network Warning

David Schwartz, Ripple's former technology chief, has spoken out against Bitcoin Knots' recent claims that the Bitcoin network is under attack. On August 11, 2026, Schwartz tweeted that Bitcoin Knots' warning was misleading and aimed to embarrass themselves or confuse readers who lacked context.

The controversy surrounds BIP-110, a proposal that implemented mandatory signaling for nodes since block 961,632. However, the plan stalled due to lack of consensus, with only 51 out of 2,016 Bitcoin blocks signaling for BIP-110, representing just 2.53% of the total.

Bitcoin Knots had warned users not to downgrade or change their software, citing the risk of false confirmations through blocks that were considered invalid according to their protocol rules. Despite this, Schwartz questioned the legitimacy of Bitcoin Knots' claims and criticized their decision-making process.
