Schwartz Sees Potential for XRP to Surpass Bitcoin Market Cap
David Schwartz, former CTO of Ripple and architect of the XRP Ledger, has made a surprising prediction about the future of XRP. Speaking during an X Spaces discussion, he stated that it's possible for XRP to overtake Bitcoin in market capitalization.
Schwartz emphasized that this wouldn't happen because Bitcoin is shrinking, but rather due to XRP growing faster than Bitcoin. He highlighted the technical design advantages of the XRP Ledger, including its ability to process transactions at a higher speed and with greater functionality than Bitcoin's base layer.
The former CTO pointed out that XRP has closed large gaps before, citing its brief period as the second-largest cryptocurrency by market cap in late 2017 and early 2018. He also recalled selling some XRP near $0.10 due to the price feeling 'extraordinarily high' at the time.
Currently, Bitcoin's market capitalization is around $1.54 trillion, while XRP's is approximately $85 billion, making Bitcoin roughly 18x larger. To match Bitcoin's current valuation, XRP would need to trade near $24.50, assuming a steady market cap for Bitcoin and using XRP's circulating supply of around 62.7 billion tokens.
