Schwartz: XRP Could Overtake Bitcoin in Market Capitalization
David Schwartz, former Chief Technology Officer at Ripple, sparked interest in the XRP community when he said that the asset could potentially overtake Bitcoin in market capitalization. In a recent discussion on X Spaces, Schwartz stated that this 'flippening' is possible, but emphasized that it would not happen due to Bitcoin's decline.
According to Schwartz, the scenario would occur if XRP grows faster than Bitcoin within a broader expansion of the digital-asset market. He highlighted the technical advantages of the XRP Ledger over Bitcoin, including higher transaction speeds and more scalability.
Schwartz also noted that XRP has historically been able to close large gaps in its market capitalization, citing an instance in late 2017 and early 2018 when it briefly surpassed Ethereum. To put this into perspective, the current gap between Bitcoin and XRP is substantial, with Bitcoin trading near $77,165 and XRP around $1.35.
Matching Bitcoin's valuation would require XRP to trade near $24.50, assuming the market cap of Bitcoin remains steady and using XRP's circulating supply of approximately 62.7 billion tokens.
