Scroll Ditches Public L2 Network for Private AI-Focused Compass
The Scroll team has announced plans to transition their public L2 network into a private, application-specific one, dubbed Compass. This pivot is expected to take around nine months and will see the Scroll Network move to Ethereum Mainnet with no changes in tokenomics or supply.
According to the Scroll governance forum post on September 8, 2026, the team believes that a public L2 network is not the best way to create differentiation or support their products. They have been using AI to operate and develop products, reducing the need for over 20 engineers previously required for key operations.
The team has developed a stack of AI-related products, including Compass, Compass API, CENO, USX, SCR, and the Scroll Network. Compass is an iOS app that provides access to large language models and features through the Compass API, while CENO is a ZK-based layer for personal data, context, and computation.
The team has released a plan to distribute content across various social media platforms, including Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, X, and LinkedIn. They aim to transition from theoretical usage to real-world applications and revenue generation.
