SEC Advances Digital Asset Rules Amid CLARITY Act Delay
Coinbase's Chief Policy Officer Faryar Shirzad welcomed the Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC) decision to advance formal rulemaking for certain digital assets. The SEC will hold an open meeting on August 14, 2026, at 10 a.m. ET, to consider proposing a tailored offering regime for certain crypto-related investment contracts.
Shirzad expressed support for the SEC's efforts in developing clear rules for digital assets, citing President Trump's crypto blueprint as a precedent for regulators using their existing authorities while Congress works on a lasting statutory framework.
Coinbase maintains that regulatory action is needed alongside legislation, and Shirzad emphasized that both are required. He described the Digital Asset Market CLARITY Act as remaining critical and said Coinbase looks forward to its enactment.
