SEC Cancels Meeting on Crypto Rules Amid Scheduling Issue
The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has cancelled an open meeting scheduled for Friday that was expected to consider new rules for cryptocurrencies.
The commission had been set to decide whether to propose a 'tailored offering regime' for investment contracts involving crypto assets, but the meeting has now been scrapped due to an unforeseen scheduling issue.
This comes after the Senate failed to pass the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, which aimed to provide a comprehensive framework for financial regulators overseeing the crypto industry. SEC Chair Paul Atkins had stated that the agency was 'ready, willing, and able' to come out with rules on digital assets if the Senate did not act.
The cancellation of the meeting has left many in the crypto community wondering what this means for the future of regulations in the space.
