SEC Chair Hails Regulation Crypto Assets Proposal as Historic Step Towards US Crypto Leadership
SEC Chair Paul Atkins has hailed the Regulation Crypto Assets proposal as 'historic', calling it the agency's most significant step yet in establishing the US as a global crypto leader.
The proposal, released by the SEC on August 18, aims to introduce a specific securities offering structure for select investment contracts with crypto assets and provide clearer guidelines for market participants. Two registration exemptions are proposed: $5 million in offerings over four years, and $75 million within a 12-month period.
Atkins also urged Congress to move forward on the CLARITY Act, which seeks to give digital asset regulations more clarity and define regulatory boundaries between federal financial regulators. The SEC's proposal is based on a major interpretation released in March that studied how federal securities laws apply to various kinds of crypto assets and goods and services.
