SEC Clears Path for Kalshi, Bitnomial, and Coinbase Derivatives to Offer Security Futures
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has granted security futures approval to three cryptocurrency exchanges, KalshiEX LLC, Bitnomial Exchange, and Coinbase Derivatives LLC.
This move is significant as it allows these platforms to offer security futures products, but they will not become full stock exchanges like Nasdaq.
According to the SEC's filing, KalshiEX LLC and Bitnomial Exchange have completed national securities exchange registration under Section 6(g) of the Exchange Act, while Coinbase Derivatives LLC filed its own Form 1-N with the SEC on September 1, 2026.
This approval follows a similar path taken by CME in April 2026, which also completed a 6(g) filing.
