SEC Cryptocurrency Task Force Meets With Offchain Labs Over L2 Blockchain Technology
The SEC's cryptocurrency task force staff met with representatives from Offchain Labs and law firm Arktouros PLLC on August 20. According to a memo released by the SEC, this meeting was requested by the task force to discuss L2 blockchain technology and its intersection with federal securities laws.
The agenda included discussing the purpose and goals of L2 blockchain, its differences from Layer 1 (L1), and its potential benefits for market participants and the broader blockchain network. The meeting also touched on compliance-related tools, specifically using L2 as a bridge between private and public blockchains.
The Offchain Labs team, which developed the L2 scaling software Arbitrum stack, presented several topics for discussion, including the role of sequencers in L2 networks, and how they can help resolve constraints in Ethereum's L1 network. The meeting did not result in any clear agreements or interpretations on regulatory matters.
