SEC Delays Crypto Rules, Leaving Market in Uncertainty
The SEC's expected crypto rules have been delayed, adding another twist to the US regulatory picture for digital assets. The agency canceled its August 14 meeting, which was expected to consider a proposal for a tailored offering regime for certain crypto investment contracts.
The SEC cited an unforeseen scheduling issue and said the meeting would be moved. This delay also affects the tokenization 'innovation exemption,' which has reportedly been delayed again. Sources suggest that the hold-up could be linked to negotiations around Section 10505 of the CLARITY Act, which deals with tokenized securities.
The SEC's move may have both positive and negative implications for certain crypto assets. For XRP, HBAR, and XLM, the delay preserves their existing legal standing for longer. A formal pathway could eventually allow additional projects to seek clearer classification, reducing the edge currently enjoyed by assets with stronger recognition.
For these assets, the extra time gives them an opportunity to strengthen their case through payments, liquidity, institutional integration, and practical use. As the landscape develops, actual demand could matter more than legal status alone.
