SEC Delays Tokenization Exemption Amid CLARITY Act Talks

The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has delayed the public release of its proposed 'Innovation Exemption' for tokenized securities. The measure aims to exempt trading in tokenized securities from existing securities regulations.

Eleanor Terrett, host of Crypto in America, stated that the delay was influenced by discussions around the CLARITY Act, a bill that includes provisions related to tokenization. If the SEC were to push ahead with the exemption on its own, it could create uncertainty around those provisions, she said.

The SEC's public meeting on 'Regulation Crypto Assets' is scheduled for August 14, where they will discuss new rules and exemptions for crypto-related fundraising transactions. Additionally, the agency plans to consider a separate issuance framework for certain crypto-asset investment contracts.
