SEC Explores 24/7 Stock Trading in Upcoming Roundtable
The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is exploring the possibility of introducing 24/7 stock trading in the country. A roundtable meeting has been scheduled for September 17, 2026, to discuss the feasibility of this idea.
The panel will consist of prominent players from legacy finance, including Citi, BlackRock, Nasdaq, Charles Schwab, Jane Street, and the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). They will discuss exchange readiness, system resiliency, market impacts, surveillance, cybersecurity, liquidity, and investor protections.
The SEC has noted that full-time trading could attract global liquidity, but also emphasized the importance of safety rails. This move is in response to growing demand from both local and foreign investors for this crypto-like feature.
