U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) nominee Paul Atkins expects the 'Clarity' bill to pass the Senate this month. The bill includes standards for classifying cryptocurrencies, which has been a major hurdle in regulatory efforts. According to Atkins, the SEC is pushing ahead with regulatory work to support the cryptocurrency industry.

The Clarity bill was initially expected to be passed before the August recess but was delayed due to clashes among banking lobby groups and lawmakers over service structures and investor protection. The bill has also been met with criticism from some lawmakers who have demanded changes to ethics-related wording, including a ban on government officials promoting cryptocurrencies or gaining financial benefits through them.

Despite the challenges, Atkins is optimistic about the bill's chances of passing, stating that 'we are changing the approach of the past' and wanting to modernize rules for the era of blockchain and crypto assets. The SEC and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission are also continuing to build policy frameworks separate from legislation.
