SEC Poised to Propose New Rules for Cryptocurrency Offerings
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is preparing to take a significant step towards establishing formal rules for cryptocurrency offerings.
A new framework, known as 'Reg Crypto,' aims to make it easier for certain digital asset companies to raise capital by creating a tailored offering regime for investment contracts involving crypto assets.
The SEC has scheduled an open meeting on August 14 to consider whether to propose the new rules. If approved, the proposal would begin a formal rulemaking process, allowing for public comments and potential adoption of final regulations.
This marks another significant shift in the SEC's approach to cryptocurrency regulation, following its March interpretation aimed at clarifying how federal securities laws apply to different types of crypto assets and transactions.
