SEC Ponders All-Day Stock Trading to Mirror Crypto Markets
The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is set to explore the possibility of implementing crypto-style round-the-clock stock trading in the US. The agency has announced a meeting with prominent players in legacy finance, including Citi, BlackRock, Nasdaq, Charles Schwab, Jane Street, and the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), on September 17 in Washington, DC.
The discussion will focus on whether to extend trading hours for US stocks, following the lead of global markets like those in London and Tokyo. This move could potentially increase market efficiency and provide more opportunities for investors.
However, it is worth noting that some critics may argue that extending trading hours could also increase volatility and put retail investors at a disadvantage due to their limited access to liquidity outside traditional business hours.
