SEC Postpones Crypto Rules Proposal Amid Scheduling Issue
The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has delayed its proposal for a tailored offering regime covering certain investment contracts involving crypto assets. The agency canceled an open meeting scheduled for August 14, citing an unforeseen scheduling issue.
The SEC had been expected to consider proposing a framework that would allow qualifying projects to raise capital without complying with every requirement applied to conventional securities offerings. However, the cancellation keeps the initiative at a preliminary stage and postpones the release of details on eligibility standards, fundraising limits, investor protections, and disclosure obligations.
Market participants remain subject to existing law, including registration requirements and disclosure obligations. The delayed SEC Crypto Rules add uncertainty for issuers, particularly startups that need capital before their networks become sufficiently decentralized or functional.
