SEC Prepares for 24/7 Trading, Brings Together Wall Street Giants
The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has made a significant move towards extending trading hours on US stock markets. A roundtable meeting, scheduled for September 17, 2026, will focus on preparing exchanges, brokerage firms, and other market organizations to trade 24/7.
The SEC aims to create a system similar to cryptocurrency markets, where investors can buy and sell stocks at any time of day. The meeting will address technical and operational aspects of this model, including issues related to night trading, market surveillance, liquidity, clearing and settlement processes, and investor protection.
The SEC has managed to bring together major financial institutions for the meeting, with representatives from 17 companies attending, including giants such as BlackRock, Citi, Nasdaq, NYSE, Cboe, FINRA, State Street, Citadel Securities, UBS, Robinhood, and Charles Schwab.
