SEC Proposal Could Unlock Value for Public Blockchain Networks
The SEC has proposed Regulation Crypto Assets to establish tailored exemptions for certain investment contracts involving crypto assets. This move could potentially unlock value for public blockchain networks, according to Grayscale's Head of Research Zach Pandl.
Pandl identified Ethereum, Solana, and BNB Chain as potential beneficiaries of the new rules. The proposal would allow eligible issuers to raise up to $5 million over four years or up to $75 million during each 12-month period, with expanded disclosure and reporting obligations for the larger exemption.
The SEC's effort aims to bring crypto issuers back to U.S. markets while retaining investor protections. The proposed system concerns newly issued crypto assets used to finance blockchain projects, rather than digital representations of existing public-company shares.
