SEC Proposes Blockchain-Enabled Transfer Agent Rules for Tokenized Securities
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has proposed an update to its transfer agent rules, allowing firms to use blockchain as the official record for tokenized securities.
According to the SEC, registered agents must now disclose the volumes of tokenized securities handled and the specific blockchain platforms deployed.
The update is part of a multi-year effort by the agency to shift U.S. securities markets onto blockchain while preserving investor protections established since the Great Depression era.
