SEC Proposes First Regulation Crypto Rule
The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is set to propose its first rule under the 'Regulation Crypto' initiative, which aims to provide a tailored regulatory framework for certain crypto-asset offerings and transactions involving investment contracts.
The proposed rule will be discussed at an open meeting on August 14th, where commissioners will decide whether to publish it. If approved, the text will enter a public consultation period before becoming law.
The initiative could provide eligible crypto firms with clearer pathways to raise capital without relying on traditional securities registration requirements. SEC Chair Paul Atkins has outlined possible exemptions that would allow eligible start-ups to raise limited amounts of capital under simplified disclosure requirements.
