SEC Proposes Framework for Regulating Crypto Asset Investment Contracts
The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has proposed new rules for crypto asset investment contracts under its Regulation Crypto Assets framework.
The proposal, titled 'Regulation Crypto Assets', would establish registration exemptions and a conditional exemption from the definition of an investment company for certain entities holding or trading in crypto assets.
This move comes after years of debate over how to regulate the growing space. The SEC has been working on this framework since at least 2026, according to reports.
