SEC Proposes New Crypto Framework Amid CLARITY Act Progress and EU Review
The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has proposed a new framework for crypto-asset offerings, marking a significant shift towards clearer regulations in the industry.
The proposal introduces two tailored exemptions for certain crypto-related investment contracts, allowing fundraising of up to $5 million over four years or up to $75 million every 12 months with additional disclosure and reporting requirements.
This move comes as Congress advances the CLARITY Act, a legislation aiming to establish clearer boundaries between securities and digital commodities and clarify which regulators oversee different parts of the market.
In Europe, the EU is reviewing MiCA, one of the world's most comprehensive crypto rulebooks, with potential proposals for amendments or expansions expected by September 30.
