SEC Proposes New Crypto Rules Amid Clarity Act Fears
The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has proposed new regulatory rules for crypto assets. According to Commissioner Hester M. Peirce, this marks a significant step forward from previous 'inapt' rules.
Peirce stated that 'a whole generation has struggled with the SEC's insistence' on applying these inapt rules to crypto. The agency's new proposal aims to create a clear and enforceable framework for investment contracts involving crypto assets, allowing entities to raise capital while protecting investors.
The proposal comes after the US Senate failed to pass the Digital Asset Market Clarity (CLARITY) Act. SEC Chairman Paul S. Atkins praised the initiative, saying it will help drive investment back into the country and provide better protections for investors.
Galaxy Digital has cut its odds of the CLARITY Act passing in 2026 to 10%, citing unresolved political issues and a limited timeframe for Senate action.
