SEC Proposes Reg Crypto Rule, First Binding Framework for US Crypto Projects
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) will hold an open meeting on August 14 to propose Reg Crypto, a new rule that would create a tailored offering path for certain crypto investment contracts.
This is the SEC's first attempt at a binding rule for crypto market structure. The agency has been working on this proposal since early July and gave short notice under the Sunshine Act.
Reg Crypto would clarify which federal securities laws apply to crypto assets, how they apply, and provide a formal path for crypto firms to raise capital without triggering full SEC registration requirements.
