SEC Proposes Regulation Crypto Assets Amid Apeing's Pre-Launch Plans
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has proposed Regulation Crypto Assets, which would create a tailored offering regime for certain investment contracts involving crypto assets. The proposal includes two new registration exemptions: a startup exemption allowing offerings of up to $5 million during a four-year period, and a fundraising exemption permitting offerings of up to $75 million in each 12-month period.
The SEC has also proposed a conditional safe harbor from the term 'investment contract,' subject to stated conditions. Public comments are due on October 20, 2026, but it's essential to note that the proposal is not final law and does not establish the legal status of any project.
Apeing, a community-led project centered around meme culture, entertainment, engagement, and planned utility, has also announced its pre-launch plan. The project states that more than 12,000 people have registered through its email whitelist and plans to hold an early-September presale at a Stage 1 price of $0.0001.
