SEC Proposes Regulations to Make America 'Crypto Capital' Again
The SEC's Regulation Crypto Assets proposal and the upcoming procedural vote on the CLARITY Act could significantly impact the US crypto market. SEC Chair Paul Atkins described it as a step toward making America 'the Crypto Capital of the World.'
Under the proposed regulations, new exemptions would be introduced to attract innovation and capital back into the country. Additionally, certain existing exemptions would have relaxed time limits. This move is seen as a direct response to the significant amount of capital that has moved offshore in recent years.
The procedural vote on the CLARITY Act is scheduled for September 15 in the Senate. Passing cloture requires 60 votes, emphasizing the need for bipartisan support from exchanges, token issuers, and DeFi projects seeking clearer regulation and wider adoption.
